Meet one of the country’s finest…U.S. Marine Austin Gauthier.  Austin has been selected to be the Graduate of the Month for March 2009.

Austin just finished a four year service as a combat engineer.  Austin currently lives in Camp Lejeune, N.C. and his family consists of his mother and father, who live in Michigan, and a sister who is preparing to attend school for her Doctorate in Pharmacy.

Like many of our students who learn at an early age and who love the outdoors Austin has always had a lifelong dream of being a heavy equipment operator and someday operate mobile cranes.  We believe there is something inside all of us that just loves to work outdoors and in the dirt…especially behind the controls of powerful equipment such as a bulldozer or large excavator to really tear up the earth and move massive loads with the flick of the wrist.

While serving in the Marines Austin learned about our school through his bases educational services office which provided him with the information about our school.  Austin also learned that the Marine Corp would pay for his school as a benefit for his service.

We asked Austin what his experience was like with us at National Training and his response is as follows.  “I had a great time.  The instructors were great and very informative.  We had tons of time out on the machines and learned different skills and maneuvers for different scenarios that would make us graduates a vital asset to the industry as beginning operators.”  “I loved our class and instructors and the bbq’s we had together every week.”

Instructor Comments:

“Austin always wanted to try something new.  He liked working with all the equipment but the one he liked the most was the dozer better than anyone in the class.  He liked to help others on the equipment.  He liked helping so much that I had him help one of the other men in the class that was having a hard time with the dozer and he helped him a lot.

I think Austin can go to work anywhere and make an outstanding operator and accomplish anything in this type of work.”

As for Austin’s future plans his goals are to get in with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 513 in Missouri and someday operate cranes.

Well Austin, we know you will do it.  Once again thank you for choosing National Training Heavy Equipment Operator School and please keep in touch.  We like to know how are graduates are doing.
